Ultrabay DVD drives: will they take standard drives?

I have a new T61 coming in, which will sit in the Advanced Dock.

I have a Blu-Ray laptop drive for another computer that was upgraded, and I'm thinking about getting rid of that laptop. I certainly want to hold on to the Blu Ray drive. Are the Ultrabay drives compatible with standard drives? I realize I'd need to get a new faceplate and the adapter for the back, and figure I could just go look for a broken drive or a cheap CDRW/DVD combo drive on Ebay if it would work.

It uses the slim version, 9mm instead of the usual 11.7mm. Also, in the T4x at least it seems that the IBM-specific connector is permanently attached.

I know the laptop itself uses the slim, and it won't fit. (That's irrelevant, as I'll have my 320gb hdd in there anyway)

The Advanced Dock uses the larger one that also fits in the R series. That's what I'm trying to determine: is the Ultrabay Enhanced a full size drive, and if so, are they swappable via an adapter?

The R5x series is the same, just thicker. No removable adapter. Well actually the tray on both is connected via a removable ribbon cable, but I don't think the connector's standard.
