T61 speaker static

#1 Post by ataraxia » Sun Apr 13, 2008 8:16 pm

Does anyone know what could be causing speaker static in my T61? It does not correlate with anything (sound events, etc.) - it just seems to happen randomly. It stops if I mute the speakers and only seems to be occuring on the left side.

Nothing new wireless-wise added in the house, and I haven't installed any new software recently.

Hoping to not have to send in for repairs a second time...

Thank you!

Could be a radio signal of some kind, for e.g. from your cellphone, bluetooth etc.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

... back when I was an active radio ham, I used to cause... well, lets' just say "some interference" in the local neighborhood (when transmitting SSB and CW on shortwave and VHF), but that was of course never my fault, but was always owing to poorly designed (= not sufficiently immune) commercial equipment. Check to see if you have any high-power hams in you vicinity? :-)

PS: If it is a real high-power transmitter, you don't even turn your ThinkPad on to enjoy the (rectified) signals!
