'An error occurred while gathering user information'

Hello:

I have a T61p which I got in December 2007. I have not been able to run system update on it. Every time the system update will run to 9% and then stop due to: 'An error occurred while gathering user information'.

The OS is Windows XP SP2. System update is version 3.13.

I did forum/web search and found the some suggestions. However none of them work for me.

Any suggestions on what to do?
