Just upgraded to 7K200 HD, 3 gig memory, and Vista OS...

#1 Post by rsunthar » Tue Apr 15, 2008 11:52 pm

So far everything is working great. All my programs work fine and I'm kind of digging the new windows setting.

However, with my new hard drive, the HD light (under the monitor, next to the battery light), keeps blinking like crazy, it's as if it's writing something to my hard drive. I've tried doing nothing, and it still blinks like mad.

Also, I had 135 gigs left about 1 hour ago; just checked and its down to 131. All I've done is type a couple of letters in MSWord. What could be adding 4 gigs in 1 hour?

Any help appreciated.

Much of your hard drive may be getting filled with system restore images (part of vista's "features")

More here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows- ... m-restore/

The hard drive thrashing is caused by the operating system indexing your files. That will take a while.

Vista also "learns" your habits and programs and creates a Superfetch file to speed things up. For a while it will seem slow as it "learns".
