Well, my daughters spanking new T61p arrived yesterday (ordered 4/11, arrived 4/17). Unfortunately, she's in Kentucky and I'm in N Carolina so dad doesn't get to play with it. I ordered it with Windows Vista Business (so I could get the XP recovery CDs) and sure enought, it came with XP recovery CDs in the box - didn't even have to order them. I also called them up and got a set of original Vista Business recovery CDs. At first they said I would have to pay $45 for them but I eventually haggled them down to free!

So:

T61p 14.1" SXGA+
T9300 2.5GHz CPU
Quadro 570M graphics
2Gb (1DIMM)
160Gb 7200rpm
DVD/RW
ABGN
Fingerprint Reader

All for $1194! Sheesh, I can remember when a T40p was four times that (as were the early 600s, if recall correctly)!

Sounds like a very nice configuration for the price.

Got mine in the middle of last Nov and even with EPP pricing and a not so great configuration it was more expensive, although I did also get a 3 year warranty. I also had to spend quite a bit extra in the after market to get a pair of 200 GB 7k200 hard drives and 4GB of ram. All of that stuff is quite a bit less expensive now, of course. On the other hand, I have been enjoying using the machine for the past 6 months. :)

Seems like now is a very good time to buy a Thinkpad.
