Samsung HDD on T60

Hi all, I own a T60-2007bts which had a 60GB hard drive. I am looking to upgrade to a 250Gb one soon. However, calling the ibm service in singapore, they told me to go to the authorized retailers which quoted me ridiculous prices for the proprietary drives by Hitachi and Toshiba. A survey of the current market shows the generic Samsung drives only cost 90-100 US dollars here while the proprietary ones quoted were around 200 US. The retailers claim that the generic drives wont be as stable as the ones they sell but I think they are just pulling a fast one on me. Has anyone used the Samsung SATA 1 or 2 drives in their T60s? Are they stable? Please advise. Thank you.

So it's true that T60 supports the new SATA 3.0Gb/s drives? assuming that your samsung has one?

AFAIK, SATA 3.0gb/s drives will work on SATA 1.5GB/s controllers. I could be wrong. The drive I have is the HM320JI (according to the invoice), which is not on Samsung's site, but it is reported to be a SATA 1.5Gb/s drive.

A SATA 3.0 drive will work on a T60, but since the chipset doesn't support 3.0, it will revert to 1.5. My 160GB Seagate drive is a 3.0 drive. It works fine.

I have a Samsung HDD on my T60 and it is working perfectly well. I shall recommend you to go to SLS level 4 EliteInfoTech (look for the boss) and get your HDD from them. Theirs are cheaper than all the fairs (PC show, IT show, cosmex & etc..). They only carry Samsung drives. Can bargain prices with them. You can also check your drive immediately for any damages.
