Did I do it correctly?

#1 Post by rmcder » Fri Apr 25, 2008 4:52 pm

I thought that I got my Recovery Disk(s); the ones that restore the laptop to its originally-shipped configuration. However, having read that you get one chance only, and I seem to have done it a couple times, I wonder if I didn't mess it up? That would be a BAD thing, since I wiped out the Recovery Partition and re-partitioned the hard drive!

What I have (on the first go-round) is a bootable cd along with 6 other cds - total seven cds. This is for a T60 with a 100g drive. Later sets increased in number of cds from seven, to thirteen, to nineteen as I fine-tuned what I considered to be my "base configuration" for recovery if needed. If I DID mess this up, I guess I ought to do something about it NOW rather than waiting until I really NEED to!

No one can answer my question? Surely someone has done this correctly in the past!

Unfortunately, it's not clear what you are asking. Are the "recovery CDs" the ones you created when you first got the computer or are they CDs that came from Lenovo? I don't think the recovery CDs swell based on configuration - the base recovery CDs cover all configurations.

Please clarify you post and exactly what help you want.

You get one chance to create CDs to restore to factory image. (Unless you recover the machine. Then it starts over) It sounds like the 1 plus 6 are the "recover to factory". The others are recover to now.

Yes, these are the ones I created. Another post suggested that the seven disk combo (first one) would restore the laptop to factory condition - I assume that means that it would also restore the recovery partion to factory? The later ones would restore the operating system partition(s) but NOT the recovery partition? Do I have that right?

Hello?? I appreciate the responses, but I'm still not sure where I stand. The seven disk set restores the factory condition with the original Recovery partition? The subsequent (13 and 19) disk sets are basically backups that WOULDN'T restore the Recovery partition at all, or would restore it in a post-recovery-disk condition (as it was when the 13 and/or 19 disk set was created)? Clarification please!

Yes, the original seven disks return your computer to a factory fresh image (wipes everything clean, installs the recovery partition, and then installs the O/S and applicationsoftware that was on your computer when it was brand new, from this). Unfortunately, I haven't used the other recovery/restore options, so I can't help with that.

Thanks Keith. Anyone able to answer the second half of the question?
