t60p screen received from ebay seller browngranite
Just received a replacement screen for my t60p. looks to be a SHARP something or other. Here are the identification numbers I see (not sure which is relevant)
lq150u1lw22
51 450026 a
s2415-5
k306otp
026628t
Anyone have info on this screen? Is this a flexview? I was expecting the Boe-hydis hv150ux1 so obviously this is a disappointment.
I'm not going to install it until I get a little more info and probably won't at all. most likely browngranite will be hearing from me shortly unless anyone has info to persuade me otherwise. geeze.
heres the history of my situation

any help, info, insights would be appreciated. thanks

doesn't say FlexView but i thought all the 15" UXGA LCDs from Lenovo were FlexView?

Here's the datasheet:
http://www.pdfsea.com/en/down/2007/0928/5312.html
typ: 400:1 CR, ok viewing angles for a TN - but color primaries aren't given, which must mean it doesn't look extremely good. But one thing is the data sheet, another thing is how the real life performance is. But no doubt either an Idtech N150U3-L01 or Hydis HV150UX1-100 would eat it for breakfeast
Did it come in a sealed package? If not, you could always try it...
This sound typically like a reprogrammed EEPROM to make it whitelisted on a T60/p.

According to Jin at displayblog.wordpress.com, Sharp's Advanced Super View is based on VA. So it should be a good screen, comparable to IPS or AFFS.
As Troels pointed out, viewing angles (140/110) are better than regular TN, but not as good as the other HQ panels (170/170 for IDtech and LG and 178/178 for BOE). With 180 nits it will be slightly less bright than the others, and contrast at 400:1 is the same as for the LG and IDTech, only BOE panels have a slightly higher contrast at 500:1.
From the spec sheet, your panel's response time (9-16 ms) is a lot faster than IPS (50 ms) or AFFS (30 ms). That makes sense: VA technology was developed as a compromise between TN's speed and IPS's viewing angles.

It may be a good screen but the bottom line is that you did not get what you've paid for, which is a proper T60 replacement unit.
Return this one to the seller and I'm sure that we can hook you up with the LCD that fits your ThinkPad per all standards.
Just my $0.02

The display mode is marked as "Normally white", which i thought not was an aspect of PVA. Sharps TVs with ASV are "normally black", as seen in:
http://www.sharp.ca/pdf/br_LC15SH6U_pdf.pdf
Which is the reason i believed it is TN, but a better one at that. Just noticed they say it has "color filters of excellent performance", so that does sound a bit promising.

philipsumner,
I'm sorry to hear about the screen you received. I know I recommended Browngranite as I had good luck with them. The screen I ordered and received was a Boe-Hydis.
You didn't say which screen you ordered from them or if it was advertised as a Hydis or IDtech. If you were told it was one of those makes then I think you should return it and demand either a replacement or a refund. It's possible there was a shipping error or other mistake.
I remember when I ordered from them I was pretty picky about the make and model number and what they said they would send me was what I got. Let us hear back from you on this. Hopefully you will be able to work it out. If I were you I wouldn't try hooking it up and testing it. If they sent you the wrong screen by mistake and you hook it up and it burns something your chances of remedy will be zero.
