No sound - T61 XP

I have a T61 with Windows XP. For some reason I have lost my audio. It started this morning when I (hot) undocked my computer from my Advanced Mini-Dock. Attached to my advanced mini-dock is a set of Altec Lansing speakers. I restarted the computer a few times and still nothing. I never hot dock my laptop. I always shut it down, put it in the docking station, then reboot. I plug in headphones to the ThinkPad, and no sound either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try both hot and cold docking into the first dock, and then shut down before undocking. If this doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall the sound device drivers.

i recently had a similar problem: i had speakers plugged in and when i unplugged them the sound with the laptop speakers was gone. through the external speakers the sound was still working. after uninstalling and reinstalling the audio driver everything worked fine again.

Reinstalled the drivers. Fixed it. The problem was when I went to reinstall the drivers, I went to add/remove programs. Then when the uninstaller came up, I clicked Reinstall program. The sound continued to not work until I completely uninstalled SoundMax and reinstalled the program.
