T61 running slow? Screen flickers, loads slow etc?

#1 Post by visio » Sun May 04, 2008 8:38 pm

I had this problem when I first got my T61 and quite frankly it was a bit starling... I had never had a thinkpad act this way and I was beginning to rethink my decision to continue to buy them... but thankfully I got it figured out and it now is running smoother and starting faster than my pc which is twice as "good"

The first thing I did was open ThinkVantage and goto the "Update my system" link, I downloaded everything(about 200MB) - I then went into CONTROL PANEL > SYSTEM >> AUTOMATIC UPDATES(TAB) >>> "INSTALL UPDATES FROM WINDOWS UPDATE SITE"

I then downloaded anything related to system performance... forget the outlook garbage and nonesense like that... it won't effect your speed.

The windows SP update seemed to fix the issue of starting slow and also the screen flickering(usually when on battery)... the laptop now starts quite fast and access connections is lickety-split where before it took over a minute just to load the window.
It still for some reason takes a little longer than I think it should to shut-down but I won't complain there...

I thought i'd post this since most of us(well atleast me anyways) won't go straight to MS and download the windows updates...
Hope this helps somebody...

I think most people, including myself, do regularly use Microsoft Update for updating the OS. It's the non Lenovo driver updates on MS Update, that many people, including myself, usually avoid.
HP DV8t | Intel i7-Q 720 | 6GB (DDR3 1333) RAM | 1 TB (500GB Seagate 7200 rpm x2)| GeForce GT 230M (1GB) | 18.4" FHD | SuperMulti 8X w Lightscribe | FP Reader | Bluetooth | HDTV Tuner | Win 7 Ultimate x64. Backup: T61p (8891-CTO)

It was actually the MS update which fixed the problem...
