T61 - Some CD's not Recognized

This has got me baffled. Let me start out by saying that after reading the forums I've performed a clean install to remove many of the lonovo programs

I have a IDVD-RAM UJ-852 ATA DVD/CD drive and for some reasons it doesn't recognize some Audio CDs. The weird part? It seems to happen with the 2nd disc of two cd sets.

I recently purchased the Lost Season 3 soundtrack and was able to rip the first cd to my hard drive. When I inserted the second? The disc is not even recognized. When I try to open the drive through Windows Explorer it tells me to insert a cd?!?!

I've run the DVD Multi drive firmware update utility (Bootable CD ISO) - ThinkPad but that hasn't helped.

I'm running 32-bit Vista Home Premium.

Anybody got any ideas?

If the CDs read fine on other computers, it sounds like the drive. Get it replaced under warranty.

Well, I've gotten a replacement drive from Lenovo and I'm still experiencing the same problem.

Any other ideas?

OK..... You know what's coming.................. System Recovery............

If that doesn't work, it sounds like time to send it to Solectron until they can fix it!

Thanks sktn77a. I was hoping it wasn't going to come to that but that's been my luck since I've bought the T61. I've been a big Thinkpad fan for a long time and never had an issue with my T20 but I've had nothing but trouble with the T61.

First performance issues drove me to do a clean install and now I'm going to have to do it again because of this issue.

Anyone else really turned off by the T61?

I love my T61 - perhaps you got a bad one?
