Re t61p recording:What do you use Stereo Mix/Wave Out for?

It has been established that the Lenovo 61 series models, which include the t61/p, r61 & x61/s/tablet models, have had the stereo mix feature removed at the hardware level.

The Stereo Mix or Wave Out feature is used to record/stream the audio that is playing over the speakers of the notebook. There are various uses as i've mentioned some in the poll, If you feel i've left out some of the things you use Stereo Mix for please mention them in the ensuing thread

Lenovo insiders want to know if the feature is important to you, and what you use it for. So please participate in the poll, so we can have some figures to give them.

Thank You for your help

NB. to the Mods, this isn't a duplicate thread, Moderator Nonny approved the creation of a new thread.

I'd like to be able to select more than one, but I've cast my vote. It's too bad that Lenovo won't be able to do anything, but maybe next time, although there will be no further Lenovo purchases by me.

The Board doesn't support multiple choices, if you have more than one use for Stereo Mix, please choose other & include your various uses in your post.

Thank You

Since the original thread (which I started) that is located in the T Series section has had 169 replies and 18069 views, why is this poll located here? Would it not be better placed in the T Series section? This is not a "general" question and I think many of us involved in this do not ordinarily read the General HARDWARE/SOFTWARE questions area.

i posted it here so everybody could see it, since its not just the t61 models that are affected but all the 61 models.

I really had a hard time deciding where would be an appropriate place for the forum.

Yes, it is a general question since reports of the issue apply to the T, R and X series.

Everyone should at least scan both this conference and the General News conference since questions and information that apply to more than one series are posted or moved to those conferences on a regular basis. It's your choice, of course, if you choose not to, but expect to miss information.

I agree that many of us used the recording feature for more than one purpose.

I'd add "External TV Tuner" to the list .... some tuners need recording capability to record TV shows.

One reason for lack of responses to this poll is because there is no Stereo Mix/Wave Out on the T , R and X 61 series units ...... thus logic would dictate fewer responses.

The poll should have been:

"Do you miss or need the Stereo Mix/Wave Out recording capabilities which been factory disabled on all the the 61 series laptops?"

Exactly!

First off all of that can't fit in the title and second the title was amended to be recognizable to the original t61 issue as mixz1 stated when it was initially posted, it still hasn't generated any response....
obviously noone (not enough to matter) uses it, no wonder Lenovo removed it.

Do you want Stereo Mix recording on the 61 series?

"Do you want Stereo Mix recording on the 61 series laptops?" fits quite well. BTW, I do!

The reason the poll question was phrased the way it was is because that's the question Lenovo asked.

I learned long ago working for the government that the most important thing is to phrase polls and questionaires in a way to ensure you achieve the response desired. Basic Polling 101.

If Levono crafted the wording of the poll, then it is not a arms distant relationship and must be declared invalid.

I move for a new poll placed in each of the X, T and R forums with proper wording to be determined by forum members input.

We should not allow ourselves to become biased tools of any manufacturer who has a vested interest in the outcome of any opinion poll.

Huh?

Neither should a poll become biased by users who a vested interest in the outcome!

Cheers,

Lenovo didn't craft the wording of the poll. They just asked a question, and DRTigerLilly tried to answer it just as Hellbore and others have done in search of data to help convince Lenovo to fix or change something. If you want a different poll, put one up, but stop bashing DTL for having the initiative to try to do something.

And that goes for the rest of you. I'm getting tired of the sniping and naysayers around here. Either shut up, or do something positive for once.

DTL, I'm sorry if it seemed your were bashed .... It's Lenovo that was the intended target of my frustration :thumbs-UP:

The poll was initially posted in the general thread for thinkpads, under the heading about the stereo mix being disabled across the 61 line, mixz1 thought that the poll belonged in the t61 forum, siting that he had started the original thread, and how many views it had generated etc, It was moved here & retitled, and has still failed to generate interest, and i find it amusing, that after his request to have it moved back to the t61 thread & the title being amended to reflect or tie it to his original post, he still has issue...I give up...do whatever you want.

I still have issues? I have no issues at all. I responded to a couple of threads regarding the wording of the poll. I didn't ask you or anyone else to change it. I did suggest a change of location after the poll was ignored in it's original location. The fact that it continues to be ignored in a location with over 28185 views of the original posting seems to indicate something else going on.

I've voiced my opinions about the chip problem and about the poll before; bad location, bad wording, etc. It obviously doesn't matter. Lenovo is not going to restore the stereo mix function in future editions, it can't fix the problem in current editions, and those that actually cared have found add-on solutions either in software such as VAC or add-in cards.

I've gone back to doing production work on my A31p with it's fully implented audio system and its far more legible screen, and my NetVista desktop. As I've said, my T61p is my last ThinkPad. There are less expensive and more functional choices out there and while the eager and knowlegeable community of ThinkPad users still exists, one of the main members of that community, IBM, is gone.

While Lenovo is making brave attempts in their North Carolina based community forumu, the corporate culture and direction has changed. I can't blame them as their profit is the driving force behind their marketing decisions. It is obvious from the lack of enthusiasm for this poll that their decision is correct. The majority doesn't seem to care about audio, or for that matter, high quality displays, either.

So I give up and share the good dr's feelings as well. I don't think there is anything more to be learned from the thread I started and I don't think the poll will exert any influence on Lenovo at all. So hey mods, if you want to lock the thread I started, fine. I won't presume to speak for the dr.
