I'm going to be buying another laptop through my college (probably not the best idea ... but oh well). It says a T61n with the following ...

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300, 2.4 GHz
2 GB RAM
14.1" Wide Screen LCD / WXGA+ (1440x900)
Discrete NVIDIA Quadro Graphics Card w/ 128Mb RAM
160 GB Hard Drive
CD/DVD Burner
802.11 a/b/g/n wireless
Webcam (1.3MP)

Is T61n a valid model or is it just a T61 that the college calls T61n?

Looks like a standard T61 with an "n" wireless card.

So it's probably just a configure to order T61 with wireless N? I'll be paying a bit more than I should since I get it through the college but I get all of the software I need.

Depends on

1) The value of the software included (that's the value to YOU, not the retail value), and

2) Does the college provide service locally? for the hardware, or software?

If not, then go with the cheapest source. Always.
