Hard Disk Problem

My wife's T61 has recently started popping up a message that says "Windows detected a hard disk problem" and then gives an option to start a backup. I have run chkdsk and Seatools but the problem keeps coming back. Since the T61 is only about 7 months old I assume Lenovo will send a new HD. I would like to restore the current image onto the new HD and not have to go through the recovery disks and then apply all the OS updates including Vista SP1.

Is there some way Rescue and Recovery can restore an image to a new blank HD? I use ShadowProtect on my T61 and it works great but I was hoping for a less expensive solution. Anyone tried Paragon Drive backup 8.51? It is a great price now at only $30. Thanks.

I've had a similar problem with my Lenovo 3000. HDD started making grinding noises and Windows kept asking for HD check. Backing up is never a problem, restoring is.. I'd tried a nice tool with a good interface: made a perfect backup on 3 DVDs, but was never able to restore.... Got a new harddrive from Lenovo, no questions asked (except when I'd return the faulty drive), but still had to install my software manually.

My tip: make sure your documents are saved somewhere and prepare to be busy for a couple of hours to get your system the way you want it.

Maybe the easiest and cheapest solution is to use the recovery disks to get back to the factory state with the new HD and then use R&R to restore the latest image.
