OpenGL 3.x: for t61p?

Okay, I guess Directx 10 isn't worth it (considering someone did come out with directx 10 on xp).
I also heard that openGL 3.x will be coming out. Will my thinkpad (specs posted below) be able to support it?

I believe that is not possible on XP, due to OS restrictions, although XP can report DirectX 10 installed (through tweaked versions, not official M$'s), but there is no utilization... Don't know if OpenGL 3.x can be supported on your TP, depends on your OS and GPU...

It depends on what you want to do. You'll probably be able to use OpenGL 3.x on the T61p, but you'll have no dedicated hardware support for it.
The 570m graphics chip is based on the 8600GT design so it supports OpenGL 2.1, which is the current OpenGL standard.
The OpenGL 3.0 specification is due this year, but who knows. The release already got postponed once.
Once the OpenGL 3.0 spec will be published, it'll certainly take quite some time until it is implemented by major vendors in software as well as in hardware.
Since OpenGL 3.0 seems to involve a major rework of the API, it'll probably also take some time until existing applications get migrated to the new API (if at all).
May I ask why OpenGL 3.x is important for you at this point of time?

It's not really at all that important at this point of time. I was just curious.
