T60p hangs while going to standby

Hi All!!

Good evening.
I came here to get help for a problem which has been eating my head a lot these days. Whenever I try to put my T60p laptop to standby/hibernate, it hangs.

The screen goes black, the wireless, 'Z' and battery lights are continuously on and they stay forever like that, till i do a hard reboot or battery goes empty.

Please help. I can not find out if there is 1 single program that is causing this..(i mean i haven't noticed this hang because some application was active).

I am using Windows XP sp3 + all other updates. I upgraded the BIOS also some time back. (Problem is occurring before that).

The normal programs that are generally running on the machine are :
firefox (around 4 separate runs with 3-4 tabs each), winamp 2.73, sametime 7.5, lotus notes, symantec antivirus + firewall, word or excel.
Maybe 2-3 java based applications in addition to these.

I am suspecting any windows service/program disabled that is causing these hangs.

Please try to analyze. If you need any other information about the tp, i will post that.

Thanks in Advance
Cheekoo

I am seeing a similar behavior on a T61p. The system appears to be going into standby due to power management settings, but hangs part way with no cideo and no keyboard or mouse response. HD and wireless lights are still on and or flashing. I have found that if I close the cover, the system finishes going into Standby and then can be brought back to normal operation by pressing the power button. Prior to closing the cover the "sleep" indicator is not lit and the power button will not wake it up. After closing the cover the "sleep" indicator lights and the power button will bring the system back to normal operation.

Hope this helps.

Hey,
First of all, thanks for replying.

Do you want to give me a hint that the issue could only be there when we try to go to standby on batteries??

Even i think that could be true.

Please try to standby your laptop on AC/on batteries and post your results. Maybe that could give us a hint as to why this is happening.
