I have never been able to use the smart charging feature of my T60 where I could set the levels where charging should start and end. I downloaded NHC (Notebook Hardware Control) yesterday and it shows that the ACPI Control System is not yet configured for this system. Checking the task manager (XP Pro SP2) shows no process resembling that name and the Windows Services dialog does not show any service with that function.
So, my questions:
1) Could my smart charging problem be caused by not having this ACPI service?
2) If yes, how can I go about getting it?
Thanks,
--- Ravi

The smart charging options work only when you have the system switched on (ie inside windows). If you want your batteries to retain the charge thresholds you set, you have to remove the power adapter after you shut down the machine.
This has been my biggest peeve with my T60, and it took me a while to find out.

You mean when the system is switched on with AC power? If so, what you suggest will be unnecessarily charging/dischargng the battery (though not to extreme limits) and would eventually shorten the battery life and charge capacity.RaviN wrote:I am wondering about the times when the machine is on and working. The machine charges close to the upper limit I set and stays there. Shouldn't it stop charging and let the battery drain to the lower limit before charging again?
The machine is designed to charge to the upper limit you set and will remain there. When you are on battery power, it will go down to whatever percentage depending on your usage and when you put the AC adapter back it will charge to the upper limit. But, if in the time you used the machine on battery the charge did not drop below the lower threshold, it will not charge to the max. limit you have set. I hope this is clear now.

Can I simply swap out my T5500 CPU in my 1953CTO T60 with a T5600? Or my T2400 core duo in my 2623D6U T60?
