T60 Suspend

Hello all,
I have a T60 that just recently started having problems with the suspend mode. When I close the lid nothing happens, I open it a few hours later the regular screen is still up. How does this machine know when the cover is shut? My old T23 had a little switch that was on the keyboard, and a nipple on the display that would push down the switch. I don’t see anything that would tell the PC the cover is closed on this.
I removed SP3, and now it is coming back. I don’t want to blame that for this problem.
Is anyone having this problem??

Newere laptops have magnetic swtiches to turn off the LCD. I suggest that you monitor the battery capacity when you bring the system back up after a suspend - if the system is properly suspended you should not lose way too much battery power.

tm,

No solution for you but this appears to be a software problem to me. On my T60 / XP/SP 2 we run multiple desktops and something on my daughter's desktop seems to inhibit suspend mode often. She runs typical "teenage"apps like Facebook and IM and Outlook Express. I have not run it down yet to the particular app.

I have a T60 that is running XP SP3 and it senses the lid closure fine, so it may not be related to SP3. Look at the power settings and confirm it is set to standby on lid closure. Also, look in the event log and see if a device failure is stopping suspend.

Setting OK, i don't see anything in the event monitor that shows a problem.
When I remove SP3, all is OK. I re-install SP3 and problem returns.
It seemed the machine worked a little fast with SP3. I would really like to find out what is happening.
Thanks
