i bought 3.5g of arctic silver 5 and 2 bottles of articlean from eBay and tried it out on my T61p. i read through the lenovo T61 service manual and the arctic silver website which has instructions on how to apply it.

overall i'm not too impressed. my idle GPU temperature went from 54 C to 56 C and surprisingly the load GPU temperature went up to 96 C!!

i hope i didn't do anything wrong because i just followed all the instructions. maybe i have to wait for the thermal grease to break in before i start seeing results? :?

cleaned both CPU and GPU cores with arcticlean

mod edit: thanks for the pic warning, but these are > 50KB. I converted them to links. -- gator

what were your measured temps before using AS5?

Yes, it looks unclear. You tell that your temps are worst with AS5 ? You make a mistake. I just got my T61p my Quadro FX 570m reach reachs 80°C with Windows Vista. I switch to Windows XP and during 3D Mark, it never goes over 75°C according to RivaTuner.

My T61p is stock... I did not plan to tweak this like my T60p to cool it down.

stock temperatures:

Idle: 54 C
Load: 85 C

anyways i reapplied AS5, and it seems to work much much better. i think the problem was i didn't spread it evenly on the first try so parts of the gpu/cpu were exposed. new temperatures:

Idle: 50 C
Load: 70 C

seems i messed up the first time. i'm pretty satisfied with AS5 now

Nice to job on the GPU. 15°C less, it's very good.
