I have a T60P 2623, with the 1600 X 1200 Flexview display on a 15" screen. I run Vista 64 on it.

Today, in the MS Windows Update, they included something called:

"Lenovo - Other Hardware - Wide viewing angle & High density flexView display 1600X1200"

What is this?
If it is necessary why is it not coming from the Lenovo update software instead of MS?

I did install it along with some other stuff and then it would not shut down (this is new clean install). So after 5 minutes of watching the "Shutting Down" display and that whirly thing, I killed it with the power button.

I subsequenty uninstalled the two MS updates for Vista that were also new today as something somewhere put a kink in the operations so it would not shut down (solid HD access - forever).

It's not necessary and just like any driver update you should check the log or something coming along with it to see what are the changes to see if you are affected by them. If you don't have a problem they always say, "if it ain't broke then don't fix it."

However, Lenovo submits drivers to Microsoft to be WHQL certified and once they are they go on Windows Update to be distributed to machines across the internet. So if it shows up for your system it's recommended you install it but then again you can choose not to. It's under the "Optional" category or "Recommended' or "Important" ??

As for your system not responding after, that could be a miriad of causes that locked the system up. IT could have been something you didn't even do/notice from hrs before but as soon as you start shutting down it went active or something like that. I am not defending MS but you gotta at least believe that they don't purposely put software on their servers with the intention to kill your machine. Obviously it's unrelated or it's a bug in their software that needs to be worked out.... and yes.. buggy stuff goes on Windows Update too. They are only humans running the system you know

Those monitor updates are usually something small and innocuous like an ICC colour calibration profile, or an INF settings document that defines the resolutions it can support.

TPFLX.ICM is the profile is for flexview panels, TPLCD.ICM for non-flexview.
