Hello,

I would like to buy a thinkpad.
I know that this question was already 1000 times been asked.

But for many reasons I would like to ask you what is the exact difference between T61 and R61. The exact models are:

IBM LENOVO ThinkPad T61 T8300 2x1GB 160GB 14'' DVD-DL VB (ND2R5PB)
and
IBM LENOVO ThinkPad R61 T8300 1GB 160GB 14'' DVD-DL NoOs (NB0NCPB)

No metter the memory difference and operationg system. I'm just asking for details that are not specified in no anounce.

There is a great difference in, for example, the cooling system realization between R and T.
R is more spartan built and has only plastic parts, while T has cover and bottom made from composite materials.
The roll cages are also different.
T-Series is a masterpiece of engineering, especially inside. R-series has no that touch of luxury and prominence like T-series.
Though both series are a great way far from other vendors. To use any consumer model after TP (no matter which one) is nearly impossible, you'll go mad from every move over 'em. :P

The current T61 and R61 14.1" widescreen models are nearly identical in quality build and finish. The R61 is 1/8" thicker and a few ounces more. They have the same rubberized lid finish, too.

Even holding them on top of each other at the same time, they are tough to tell apart. I've done this.

There was a bigger difference between the older R and T series machines. There still is a big difference between the 15.4" T61 and R61. The R61 uses less expensive feeling finishes.

From personal experience: The T6x series is [censored] near indestructible.
