Is the current T61p being phased out?

#1 Post by crg7 » Tue May 27, 2008 6:28 pm

I visited the Lenovo site yesterday and found only one T61p model on offer while 4 were available previously. Also, the 9-cell battery was not available.

Does this indicate the current T61p is being phased out with a new one due soon?

No, it just indicates that the demand is more than what Lenovo can supply at the moment .. this is way better taking up an order with an ETA of 2-3 months.

Just check back after a few days and hopefully the model you are looking for will be back.
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

Rules of the road :thumbs-UP:

I've heard form a relative working in Lenovo's thinkpad development section that the the entire t6x series is going to be phased out by the end of the year to next year if everything goes according to schedule. The replacement is something called the t500, though the only other thing she told me was that the price would start at least at around $1500.

If these things are going to be that long coming out, I might just settle for a T61 now.

I don't think T61p will be phased out soon. The Centrino 2 launch is repported from june to july (august for IGP versions). This new revision will keep on using Penryn but with 1066 MHz FSB (vs 800 MHz) and DDR3 will take place in some models. But, in order to support those new features, a new mainboard is required...

IMO, Centino 2 is not a major step. Current Santa Rosa with 45 nm CPU are still really fine.

According to our Lenovo rep at work the T61 is scheduled to EOL sometime in the last quarter of this year. It's being replaced with some sort 'workstation' class machine, and a more 'buisness' class machine. We use the T61p's at work for the Engineers on the go and he mentioned we'd be liking the new 'workstation' class machines as much or more.
Regards,
Kevin

Currently supporting the following hardware.

T60, T60p, T61p, w500, X60, X61s, x200 and m58p

Coming soon the w510 and x210

I just found out that the new system should be coming out not at the end of the year, but should come out in around 2 months. :D
