Hi all,

I'm a thinkpad newbie and would like to buy a T61 or T61p notebook. I stumbled across what IBM/Lenovo calls the "Type".

It seems that there are a lot of types out there, starting from type 6457 and currently ending at 6471.

I've found some online shops to sell 6457 types, while others sell newer(?) types like 6460 or even 6463.
I didn't find any 6171 though.

Converning documentation, Lenovo apparently handles all those types collectively in their docs, so from a user perspective there seems to be no difference at all.

My question:
Is the type of any interest for me as potential buyer/user?
Should I strive for getting a type number as high as possible or are there any types which are known to be lemons?
Or can I just merrily order my T61(p) because the type number doesn't matter at all?
What does the type indicate at all? Is it a kind of model revision?

Thank you

Quag

All of the answers you seek are in the tabook, link below. The major difference between earlier and later models of T61 is the use of Intel Penryn Core 2 Duo CPUs, vs. Meroms previously.

That's what I was looking for! Thanks a lot for this link.

Seems that the differences other than CPU are marginal to non-existent, but I've got to check this a little deeper.

There' another way to do this also. If you have the seven character "product number" (4 character Type + 3 character Model), such as "6457ABC", enter it here, http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... OME-LENOVO

This page moves around a lot, even since I booked marked it yesterday.
