T60 high pitched noise when battery falls below 60% charge

#1 Post by chris123 » Thu May 29, 2008 7:54 pm

Anybody ever heard of this?

I've owned my T60 a year now and just noticed it, partially due to a changing work environment. It's not loud but it is annoying. And the funny thing is it always comes on right when the battery hits 60%. Weird.

In a cursory search of this forum, I couldn't find anything. Thinkwiki did mention it (thus proving I'm not crazy!), although not with T60s.

They suggest several possible fixes but they don't specify if the fixes work for this specific problem which is related to battery level.

I'd appreciate any input from fellow T60 owners with sensitive ears.

Sometimes upgrade BIOS/Embedded controller will eliminate the high pitch noise.

Check your T60's BIOS version and upgrade it. The latest BIOS version released on 2008/02/13 is 2.21.

I would try this:

Code: Select all

BIOS Setup Utility

-> Config
    -> Power
        -> CPU Power Management = Disabled
        -> PCI Bus Power Management = Disabled
Model: Lenovo ThinkPad T400
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.26 GHz, 1067 MHz FSB, 3 MB L2 Cache)
RAM: 4 GB PC-8500 (1067 MHz, Dual-channel)
HDD: 500 GB, 54000 RPM
Audio: Conexant CX20561 (192 kHz, 24-bit)
Video: Intel GMA 4500MHD
Wireless: Intel 5300
