Hello,
I've just concluded a great deal on a T60. However, the warranty on the machine has expired. Normally I would not care too much as I normally don't do anything to my equipment that warrants using the warranty.
However, after my T42, I'm not quite so sure about leaving these things warranty-less. I had a standard 1 year warranty on that machine, and within that 1 year, I sent it back once for repair. After that I kept using it as normal. A bit after that it broke down again and I couldn't really do anything about it.
Anyway, my question is can you call them up and ask for a new warranty after the previous one has expired? I called them before but that was with my T42.. and obviously you can't buy warranty on a broken product, but the T60 should be in working condition (I'll know in 2-3 days.) If possible, about how much does it run?
Thanks in advance.

I may be wrong but I believe that you can extend the warranty on a ThinkPad whose warranty has expired. However, the effective date of the warranty is the expiration date of the original warranty. So, if your T60 is six months out of warranty and you buy a one year extension, you'll only get six months of coverage. I think the maximum allowable extension is 2 years. I have an R52 that is due for warranty extension in the next two weeks. The prices I was quoted are:
1 YR P&L PU Depot Repair $149.00
1 YR IOR 9x5 NBD M-F $199.00 (on site)
2 YR P&L PU Depot Repair $259.00
2 YR IOR 9x5 NBD M-F $329.00 (on site)
The cost for your T60 may be different.

Ouch.. that's pretty expensive.. Then again, it was also unreasonable to charge $475 to repair a single fan.
Though, the biggest disappointment is if that bit about the extensions applying on the date of warranty expiration is true, the warranty on the laptop expired in December, I would've lost a good half year on it already.
