T61 with Advanced Dock: KB Works, mouse doesn't...

#1 Post by kc7gr » Sat May 31, 2008 2:50 am

Well, this is an odd one...

T61 with Advanced Dock, and I have a feed cable from one of the channels on my 8-port KVM hooked up to the PS/2 port on the back of the docking station with a keyboard/mouse splitter cable.

The keyboard works great. I'm typing on it right now. However, my external trackball has no effect whatsoever on the mouse pointer. Oddly enough, the ThinkPad's built-in glidepad and the pointer stick are working very well.

UPDATE! Problem solved!
---

The problem was that the Y-adapter cable I used was designed for a system other than IBM/Lenovo. I had been under the impression that the pinouts for these splitter cables was standardized, but this is, apparently, not the case.

In my specific instance, swapping the keyboard and mouse plugs cured the problem. Both are working normally now.

So, for others who may try this: Don't panic until you've swapped the plugs around. That may be the only thing wrong.

Happy tweaking.
