Which wireless card where?

I originally planned on swapping out my dad's Atheros N w/ my 3945ABG. Did that last week. Did that to try out OSX, and planned on using it in the R60 in my sig.

But, OSX didn't work out all that well (always have problems getting it to boot properly), and Ubuntu 8.04 didn't even detect the card, although it sees the 4965AGN just fine.

So, now I've thought about switching cards. I'll put the Atheros 802.11N in my T61P, and put the 4965AGN in my R60. Typically, the Atheros would get a better signal, and the Intel would save battery life. Plus, the R60 is the one in danger of random formats for Linux and other messing around in non-Vista/XP operating systems, and the Linux support out the box would be better.

The T61P is about power, not battery. The R60 is about battery, not power, so this seems to be a good plan.

I'm just wondering if anyone can give me a reason to keep the intel card in the T61P.

None whatsoever! "Yes" if it were any other Intel card, but "No" for the 3945ABG.

well umm not sure the intel will work in the R60 is the main problem. You'll get that familiar 1802 error. Zender has some bios hacks but i'm not sure if the R series were included. The T60 cannot use the Intel AGN card without a modded firmware (BIOS) but it can use the Atheros one no problem though.

Interesting. That would truly suck.

And, since the 1st reply is kind of confusing,

the 3945ABG was taken out of my R60 and put into my dad's T60. He only connects to an 802.11B at home, so it's good enough for what he's doing. I planned on trying OSX, so I needed the Atheros (Plus I have N).

So, now I have a 4965AGN and an Atheros AGN, an R60 and a T61P. No 3945ABG in the house.

I originally had the Atheros in the R60 and the Intel in the T61P, but while my R60 was disassembled, I was thinking about swapping them, putting the Atheros in the T61P and the intel in the R60. Apparently this won't work.

I upgraded to the Atheros card. I didn't see any difference in speed, and it takes a lot longer to connect to signals. I also had some installation problems with the Atheros card.

I wouldnt do it again.
