T61p 6460-6xg vista sp1, constant freeze

window update installed the sp1 of vista ultimate. Since then the relatively stable computer has become prone to freeze and crashes. Browsing IE7, or using excel, office 07, the pc freezes, you can acess the task manager but to no avail. Has anybody experiences that ? Thanks in advance for your help
