Does locking BIOS settings protect against BIOS viruses?

BIOS viruses are rare, but I've heard about them and they can apparently be quite difficult to remove:

(Just one example I've seen)
Anyway, I've enabled the supervisor password on my T61 and locked the BIOS settings as well.
In this state, would the BIOS be protected against a BIOS virus attempting to overwrite it? The description says it will prevent "users from making any changes in the BIOS setup".
Not sure if that would apply to a virus?
