Rescue and Recovery Set Bootable?
Rescue and Recovery Set Bootable?
Using R&R, I created a full backup of my new T61 (after removing some bloatware) to 3 DVDs.
Later, I tried to restore that backup. I assumed that booting with the disc labeled "Recovery Startup" would start the process. But, it did not boot. I was able to get into R&R via the Blue Button and do the restore from there. Interestingly, the "Recovery Startup" DVD was not used.
How do I create a bootable R&R backup? Is that not an option? Why was the "Recovery Startup" DVD created? Note: My BIOS was set to boot from the DVD drive.

Isn't there an option in Rescue and Recovery via the blue button to create a bootable recovery disk?
I think the second disk in the recovery set recovers the system that was sent to you. It is used when you haven't any other way to reinstall the OS.
It has been a long time since I played with Rescue and Recovery. Check the FAQ in the first section called HOW TOS.

I don't believe DVD is supported as boot media.
If you go to Create Recovery Media, in the upper part of the window it says; "Select a rescue medium".
Lower down it says; "Note: DVD-RAM is not supported".
Try creating a cd

OK, I copied (via ISO image) the Startup DVD to a CD and tried again. This time I noticed a "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD" message. Pressing a key indeed booted into the CD which is a stand alone version of R&R.
My problem was I had never noticed the Press any key message before. It only stays up about 5 seconds until the hard disc boots.
So, now I retried the DVD and it boots too, if I am quick enough to press a key.
