Loud noise when booting up Thinkpad from DVD burner?

Anyways - being the cheap person I am, I didn't order the DVD burner when I ordered the T61 only to order it later on - more expensive, refurbished, and with some issues than if I ordered it the first time.

I ordered it refurbished and it was made in 2006 - the era of T60s.

The drive works but it makes a loud noise at the boot and every time I eject and push it back in.

It is a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-842. Refurbished. But works.

Does anyone have any ideas on fixing the noise issue?
