Hi,
I have installed ubuntu 8.04 in dual boot on my T60 ...
No problem, all seem to work fine on both side: windows and ubuntu...
2 days later... What was my surprise when I tried to backup my pc...
I start the thinkvantage rescue & recovery and the following message popUp: "The backup faild because the local backup partition was not found."
After some search I understand that during the installation of ubuntu, I have deplaced??? the service partition beetween windows and ubuntu partitions and it is not at the end.

And since I understand this I have deleted this service partition, it was not protected in BIOS?

Ok, I can backup on external memory space... , but i WANT recover this partition and utility, booting on this "os"...

where i can find (download) this partion, image? and how to configure the flags, size of the partion, if primary or extended...?

Are you certain that the Recovery partition is actually gone? The MBR pointers to it may just be fragged. If you haven't already, try using a partition editor to look around.

I think that the installation of Ubuntu (and probably any other dual-boot Linux) disables the blue Thinkvantage button at minimum because the install writes to the MBR.

yes, I have used partition editor provided by ubuntu dapper liveCD and and the partition SERVICEV001, where placed after the windows partition and before the ubuntu one. Not at the end of the disc...
I'm a newbee with lenovo laptop and I have deleted this partition...

Since my last post, according to some other posts I read; I wanted to recover the service partition through the restore factory settings. What I have made:
1. A system backup on 16 CD's : 1 called rescue and recovery, then 13 others CD (disc 1C to 13C) and 2 CD (final C and final D)
2. with the rescue and recovey cd I have chose to restore the factory settings but the end is finished with error. (i don't remember exacly the error, but somethink like debbuging.... partition have moved).
I choose to ignore.
3. The service partition is not installed, at this moment the partition editor software show only a 650M one, I suppose that's a partition for the live cd ??? and the rest of the HW is unallocated.
4. I restore the system using the 16 CD's...
5. when reboot, the grub error 17...
6. reinstalled the ubuntu 8.04 desktop...
7. now the 2 os are running but when I want to make a backup with windows: ThinkVantage blue button -> Backup Now I alway have the same message "The backup faild because the local backup partition was not found."

What I have to do to recover this service partition, I don't want to use CD to backup.
I haven't allocated the end of the disc now rest 20G.

What can I do?

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is to find a set of restore/recovery disks and return everything to the factory install status. It sounds like you didn't make these disks initially (when you first got the machine)? What you appear to have done is to make a backup of the system AFTER you made your changes, which doesn't get you anywhere.

I'm in a similar position in that I repartitioned into a C: and D:, removed the Recovery partition, and installed ubuntu. I did make a set of recovery disks to restore the machine to its factory status if I want to. I just don't use the R&R program anymore. I'm using Acronis for backups instead.
