Acronis True Image USB doesn't recognize C:preloaded drive

hi everyone and here's hoping for an answer. i looked around the different threads and i did not see a remedy. my apologies if i miss it.

i do not wish to use the T61rescue and recovery clone methods.

i have acronis true image version 9 and it works like a charm on my old laptop's while using the usb external hard drive. now that i just purchased the new T61 i cannot get acronis true image to work with the usb external drive.

i have my bios set so it automatically goes to USB first when booting up.

when i am using ATI boot using the CD for booting up and the usb external backup drive is installed.. ATI goes on but it does not find the C preloaded drive.

when i am booting up the normal way (without the usb installed) and when the T61 finishes booting... i will install the external usb hard backup drive. now it identifies the usb drive.

so is there a remedy? i sure hope so.

thanks ahead of time

You forgot to inform what OS you run on your T61 (XP or Vista??), but in the case you run Vista, then the explanation is that Acronis True Image Home ver. 9 simply does not support Vista! To backup, clone or restore Vista machines, you would need ATI Home ver. 10 or 11.

Hmmm - then I am out of ideas. However, there is a very active help forum on/about Acronis True Image; you may find help there? Try visit Acronis True Image Product Line Support Forums.

PS: If you Search this forum for e.g. "T61 Acronis" a large number of hits come up, incl. Need Help Cloning HDD on T61p - I would spend a bit of time browsing these threads, if I were you... some other user here may have had the same problem, and may have solved and maybe even described the solution here?

actually i did do a T61 Acronis Search. i looked. i did not find anything. i am not sure i would have seen the answer if it was right in front of me. i will look again a third time.

i was thinking to go to acronis website and find out more. i will do it

does anyone know- if i called ibm tech support they would assist me? i would say- their rescue and recovery program ior the hidden partition interferes with acronis.

from what i could determine... the error message-> Fail to Read Sector is a logical error and not a physical error. this was determined by chkdsk and HDD Regenerator. not one error was found.
both programs check the physical attributes of the hard drive.

so if the error is logical..then the the drive must be reformatted. (there was a post where by one person who had the same error message, where he was advised by the acronis group the same conclusion). in that case... it cured the problem.

i have already backed up the image using the rescue and recovery program. so that is what i have accomplished so far.

correct me if i am wrong.. but my plan is ...
to format the drive. then reinstall the backup image. i am not sure what steps i am missing. but that is next.

conclusion- i was about to reformat when at the last minute i decided to upgrade to the trial version which is the latest version. and it worked the error message (Failure to Read Sector...) never appeared. i checked it out 2 3 times different ways.

thanks for all your help.

Please also consider True Image versions <10 are known for having problems with SATA controllers. Images often get corrupted - not amusing at all :/

i was having serious trouble getting my new t61 to work. i spent my introductory two and a half weeks with the inability to set up my programs. i had seemingly one problem after another. lenovo/ibm tech support was extremely helpful.

finally one tech support man recognize the problem without realizing it and with no fanfare. when one is setting up the computer with the recovery and rescue disks, the bios must adjust the t61 configuration to SATA -> AHCI -> Compatibility mode (as well as Boot the ATAPI to 1st priority).

the t61 defaults with VISTA to use the sata interface. however i have WinXP Pro which does not automatically become compatible and default to the sata interface. when setting up, one must make it AHCI compatible. once this was done- and this meant restarting from the beginning all, over again. but now there are no problems at all--- so far.
