T61 Palmrest Screws

#1 Post by Oraklini » Sun Jun 08, 2008 8:30 am

Just upgraded the Ram in the T61 and the keyboard seems slightly raised on the l/h side.

The four screws are of the same length and it is the second screw in from the left (when sat in front of the T61) that is pushing the keyboard up.

Should that screw be shorter?

Thanks

My apologies for posting in the wrong section, must get my eyes tested

All four screws to hold the palmrest has the same lenght and look.

It should be screwed down just like the opposite side.

And even when done correctly, I still feel that the left hand side of the palmrest just near the Alt button, feel a little bit raised. But just a tiny bit.

I upgraded the RAM on 3 T61p's this week and found it difficult each time to get the palm rest back on. It's kinda tricky to get it to snap back on securely. I do know that all 4 screws are exactly the same. I did end up getting all of them back on without any problem, and I don't think that either side seems raised. If I were you I would take the screws out, make sure the palm rest is snapped on correctly and securely, and then put the screws back in.

The nasty trick is not to get that flat metal piece below the keyboard left side just next to the PCMCIA slot for not getting in the way to screw the palmrest back.

Excellent point that I discovered after many upgrades.

Also I recommend snug and not too tight. If the palmrest is not exactly in the correct position it is possible for the correct size screw to begin to appear topside. Don't ask me how I know.

Thanks for your input guys. After two more attempts, I have it
sorted. It is not 100%, but then it may not have been before I had
it apart. I was just questioning my workmanship

Getting the palmwrest on is an art. I've been inside a few of them and it took me a while to figure it out.
