T61 CD/DVD Burner won't burn/read

#1 Post by josh999 » Tue Jun 10, 2008 8:08 pm

I have some "cheap" CD-Rs (they "look" like old phonograph records, are red & black , and have a brand name "Azul". I have burned and played them on many machines over the years. But, my T61 won't recognize them. It WILL burn and read other brands. If I take the same one the T61 can't burn or read, and put it in an ancient 600X, the 600X reads them fine.

I realize I can solve my problem by using a different brand. But it makes me mad that the newer T61 CD/DVD Combo drive can't see them. Is it likely an unsolveable problem, or would a replacement (it is under warranty) Burner help?

if your T61 can read other discs just fine, it's probably a firmware problem. There is nothing you can do about this. if you get a replacement it will likely have the same firmware and will not read the disc.

this is because the firmware is designed not to read certain recordable media (don't ask me why, it just is). blame Matshita, the drive manufacturer.

Look for CDRW, DVDRW firmware update on Lenovo website. I fixed my DVDRW by updating firmware.
