Loud noise on lid close before sleep

Previous times when I closed the lid on my T60 widescreen it quietly obeyed and took a nap (set to sleep on lid closed). I have not done this in several months, but yesterday I tried and it made a very loud, solid scream for about 15 seconds before it went to sleep. Tried the usual reboot (several times yesterday and today), etc. with the same results. It works fine from the keyboard function, just not a physical close. Following are some things that may help you help me.

3 - 4 months ago it always worked fine.
I use the default power scheme, but have changed some timers, shutdown button to power off, etc.
I have Vista 32 bit with SP1 and keep up to date on MS patches (except for the optional drivers that I always get from Lenovo)
System Update is current with all Lenovo drivers, etc.
My machine is a T60 (8743) widescreen 2 gig memory, ATI discrete graphics, 100 gig 7200 rpm drive.

Here's a funny side note. The reason I had to close the lid without a usual shutown was we had a fire where I work and the fire alarm went off. Imagine me running down the hall with a screaming computer while the fire alarms were screaming. Yes, I have been the subject of many jokes today.

Any help appreciated,
Jeff

There is an option present in ThinkVantage Power Manager which has probably been turned on somehow I believe, so here is what you should do in order to turn it off:

Open the Power Manager then uncheck "Beep until completed" under Global Power settings for the event named "Lid closed".

Thanks. I had already checked that and it was not set. I set it on, closed lid (with appropriate beep) and then reset it back to off and that fixed it. There have been 2 power mgr updates in the last few months. Something must have gone amiss there.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
