Verizon WAN pop up window at startup: how to remove?

#1 Post by bluespottedpaw » Fri Jun 13, 2008 6:53 pm

I get a Verizon pop up window everytime I startup, asking me to sign up for Wireless WAN service. How do I get rid of this annoying window? I've uninstalled the Verizon Access Manager program already, but the problem lingers. I've noticed a folder, ProgramFiles/Lenovo/ActivateWAN, which is the source of the problem. There is no uninstall function, however, so I'm wary about just deleting this folder. Help!

Start / Run / RegEdit
In the Registry Editor, on the left side, select the following by clicking on the + signs on the left:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SOFTWARE
\\Microsoft
\\\Windows
\\\\\CurrentVersion
\\\\\\Run

Identify the "offending" item on the right, then "neutralize" it by:
a) deleting the line
or
b) making it a do-nothingitem by right-clicking on it, selecting Modify, and adding "REM (quote REM space) in front of the string and a " at the end of the string (to balance out the quote in front of the REM).

Good luck.

By Jove, I think that worked! I did the "REM " thing. That ad window was super annoying. My laptop is that much closer to computing perfection now. Thanks dude!
