Guys I have a little bit of a problem which is really difficult to reproduce: Yesterday when I took my Thinkpad to the couch from the table and I had word open it froze. I still could move the mouse and open the start menu but word nor any other app was responsing. I had to swtich off the notebook in order to restart. I tried it again several times and I could reproduce it 2 times. I never had such a freeze before so I assumed that it has something to do with the Active Protection System. I googled a little and I found that:

I updated the BIOS and reinstalled the turbo mem drivers but I still believe it has something to do with the APS. Any ideas?

By process of elimination, maybe you could try disabling APS and see if you can reproduce the problem then?

Yeah I tried that but once again its not occuring every time. So I am not sure if it really solved the issue or it just did not occur again. Just wanted to check here if someone has/had similar problems.

I had a similar problem. Disabling Turbo memory fixed it for me.

Also had the random locking up problem that was difficult to reproduce. After disabling the turbo memory the problem is fixed.
Its annoying, but only $50 lost and my sanity is restored. I reinstalled from scratch twice trying to fix this beforehand.

Amazing. Congratulations to the IT industry. They add nice features to our Notebooks which do not work.

That's why I ordered my unit w/o turbo memory. A little research before ordering saved me from wasting the money on it.

Btw I didnt have any freeze for a week when I was sitting in the office. Today I was sitting on the couch and as soon as I moved and the APS locked the HD the system froze. It must have something to do with the APS.
