battery runtime with intel vs nvidia graphics?

#1 Post by Nolonemo » Tue Jun 17, 2008 9:30 pm

Does anyone have an idea of how the standard battery runtime compares between a T61 with the integrated Intel gpu and the Nvidia discrete gpu?

Thanks.

just upgraded to a new t61 because of this issue, wanted longer battery life. Went from t61 14" wxga+ 2.0ghz, 4gb, 160gb 5400rpm, Nvidia NVS 140m to t61 in my signature. Battery life has increased by over an hour with the same battery, very happy :)

Downclocking the video card with third party software can achieve the same results... I did it years ago when I had a T40p with ATI FireGL 9000.

I've got two t61 with the ONLY difference the Nvidia v Intel graphics. The intel routinely gives me seven hours of service while the nvidia give me about three to four hours.

really? I tried this but was unable to get my NVS 140M low enough to make more than a 20min difference... I got almost 6hrs last night on the integrated system whereas with the discrete system I never got more than 4....

Never ever ! You underclock Quadro NVS as low as it can, it will still draw power to fead the 210 000 000 transistors. It will never add one hour battery life. 10 to 15 minutes in best case. T40p's FireGL 9000 dates from times when GPU were not power hungry.

well T61 WS 14.1 WXGA+ Intel 3100/4965 is gona be my next buy then :) Maybe i'll find a used one and sell my T60 for that. The T60 now is pretty good but i don't need the powerful GFX card that i have now and would MUCH rather the longer battery life.

honestly, with the integrated graphics Vista Aero stills runs just as smooth (if not smoother due to faster processor/HD maybe?) and since I don't gave at all, I have literally noticed 0 difference in anything that a graphics processor could have affected. :)

Good to know :) I can't remember when was the last time I've played 3D game, so more battery time would hit the spot.
