T60p, Matrox P650, Win XP and Advanced Dock problem - BSOD

#1 Post by jasolution » Wed Jun 18, 2008 6:35 am

I ordered a Matrox P650 and installed it into my advanced dock to support two 22" DVI displays for my T60p running Windows XP SP3.

The installation was a snap. I set my display to external PCIe in the BIOS, booted while docked, installed drivers and everything worked great, until I tried to boot when not docked.

If I boot while undocked, Windows loads but about 10 seconds after the desktop loads, I get the BSOD. I changed the display setting in BIOS from PCIe to Internal, same result.

I can boot into safe mode without BSOD. I uninstalled the Matrox P650 driver (SE version) while in safe mode, but the machine still BSODs.

Has anyone else run into this issue using the Matrox P650?

Thanks,

Jason

I think you want to be using a graphics card that is very similar to the one in your T60p (which I assume has an ATI?). With similar cards you should be able to use the same driver and avoid the BSODs.

As far as the BSOD after you've removed the Matrox driver...not sure there.

People have reported all kinds of problems with SP3. Maybe that's the culprit?

Whether it was SP3 or not, I'm not sure, but I restored my system from an early backup and then re-installed the Matrox video card & drivers (but not SP3) and now I'm working great. Dual DVI displays when in the dock and regular notebook LCD when not docked.
