Access Connections latest version issues

I have a T60 (2008-7JU) and just recently updated Access Connections (along with a few other things).
It doesn't make sense to me but it seemed to cripple the machine's ability to:
1. Connect to some wireless routers. The configurations stored in my profile didn't seem to have any problem but anything new I tried to connect to would not work.
2. Dropped connections, especially if any "new" router was trying to connect (see #1 above).
3. Sluggish network/browser performance on connections that were made (this one puzzles me the most).
I went back and installed Access Connections 4.42 and everything is OK again. No dropped connection, no problems getting connected to "new" routers, browser performance zippy again.
I know that I am in the minority on this board as far as satisfied users of Access Connections (up to the new version, anyway).
Any ideas? I am staying with 4.42 for now.
Letting Windows control the wireless connections is ONLY a last resort for me...
Thanks!
Mike
