LCD replacement

Hi all,

I currently have a T61p (6457-BQG) with a 1680x1050 WSXGA+ Samsung TN panel.

Yeah, I know the panel sucks. But it's free of dead/stuck pixels and I could basically put up with it, were it not for the resolution which turned out to be just a tad too fine for me.

So, I did a little research and found places where I could buy a 42T0415 or 42T0421 LG 1280x800 LCD. Are those FRUs of decent quality compared to the Samsung TN panel?

Has anyone exchanged the panel by himself/herself yet? Is it possible at all? From the IBM/Lenovo documentation it looks like it should be possible, but who knows what stuff they came up with to prevent people from doing it themselves.
I'm not faint-hearted and technically quite savvy. Any reports of people who already did it would be helpful.

No decent panels from Lenovo nowadays, I'm sad to say, with the expection of tablets, and partially X300...

You should be able to swap the panels with no issues. I doubt that you'll be able to locate anyone who has actually done it, people usually go in the opposite direction from where you're headed...

Good luck.

Thank you :)
I wonder what the LCD quality in the upcoming new Thinkpad T series will be like.
