Lid sleep hangs, but Fn-F4 sleep works?

#1 Post by hellosailor » Tue Jul 01, 2008 2:28 pm

Just that. I'm running Vista Ultimate fully patched, with the Lenovo patches as well. The machine obeys an Fn-F4 command (which I have set to sleep) and the power button (which I have set to shut down) and the menu selections for power and restarts.

But when I shut the lid--the screen blacks out but the system just hangs, the moon LED never turns on and I have to pull the power plug to restart it, it won't accept the Fn key to rewake.

Anyone have any clue what's wrong with this? I'm thinking, a bug in the Lenovo power management, since the only problem comes during a Lenovo hardware operation--the lid closing.

If I can't fix it...I hate to do system restores and reloads backing up until it goes away again, since it just might not. I've been loading and testing apps fairly carefully, but this crept in sometime in recent weeks.

Check to see if you have a SD card in the slot. Vista doesn't play well with SD cards left in the slot while going into sleep/hibernation.

There IS an SD card in the slot--but in theory, that shouldn't make any difference to "LID action" versus any other way of shutting down. Vista goes to sleep with the SD card in the slot just fine--as long as I tell it to sleep from the start buttons options, or the keyboard options.

I will check it later, anyway.

LATER

Nope, with and without the SD card, it sleeps now--today--with the lid closing. I know the SD card drivers are a bit wonky, before I reloaded the system sometimes the card would be there, sometimes it wouldn't, but I think the latest round of drivers fixed that.

I've also tried booting with and without a Creative XFi Notebook (PCI/54 slot) audio card, thinking those drivers might be involved. Can't get that to stop it now, either. Just to be perverse, the lid sleep is working--for now. With no changes since last time, when it wouldn't.
