Should I send this in for service?

No, you never know what kind of refurbished parts they might throw in there.

T61p backlight problem

#1 Post by PStanger » Wed Jul 02, 2008 10:41 am

I've had my t61p for about 7 months now, and it has been working flawlessly. Recently, however, I have discovered a minor problem with the backlight: At minimum brightness, the level of brightness is even throughout the display. If I increase the brightness one level, the left side of the screen becomes even dimmer while the right side increases in brightness. This effect gradually goes away by the fourth brightness level. Here is a video I took of the problem. See if you guys can understand it. I am under thinkpad protection, but I haven't decided if this is worth the risk of sending my laptop in for service. I've heard some bad horror stories of technical service.

I would take it into a local dealer. I always send in-warranty repairs to EZServe, except for screen problems. It is easier to explain screen problems to someone who is looking at the same screen I am looking at.

Does anyone have an idea why this would be happening? I can't think of a plausible one...
