T61 Cannot Boot from USB External HDD

I cannot boot the laptop from External USB HDD despite putting the USB HDD as the first one in Booting Order in BIOS. It appears with minus sign as "-USB HDD" instead of "USB HDD".
Any helps or workarounds are highly appreciated.

Stupid question, but are you really sure that the HDD in the USB enclosure is really bootable? With the boot sector intact and a valid OS on it? Perhaps using another laptop with either the same USB enclosure or better yet with this HDD installed in the bay of the laptop itself (if possible) will prove it either way.
Good luck!

This HDD is surely bootable with XP on it as it was taken from another Thinkpad (T43). It works like a charm with T43 both internally and externally. When I use it with T61 externally, it doesn't work.
Is my T61 the sh**y one?
