T60 ThinkVantage updated now can't boot

2 days ago I downloaded computer updates recommended by ThinkVantage. This required restart at which time my computer would no longer boot up. I spoke with Customer Service and was told to do a complete Restore!!! Isn't there a way to fix the boot up without a complete restore? I am able to get into my files and online if I press the blue ThinkVantage button on startup.
