Waking T61 from Sleep Mode while Docked w/Cover Closed XPPro

#1 Post by akatwn » Fri Jul 11, 2008 1:38 pm

I spent considerable time searching through the forum and other web sites for a solution to the following problem:

With T61 docked in the Advanced Mini Docking Station with the cover closed and in Sleep Mode (XP Pro), how do you recover from sleep without opening the cover?

I could not find a solution anywhere. With the T61 cover open, you simply press the FN key to recover from sleep. I could not find a way to map the FN key to an external keyboard.

After much trial and error, I found a solution. Simply pressing the Advanced Mini Docking Station I/O button wakes the sleeping T61 and the external monitor(s) come to life.

Alternatively, you could buy this keyboard, which provides an FN key  :

Use the thinkvantage keyboard customizer utility and map the Fn-key to one of your Ctrl-keys. Then you can use the standard Fn-Spacebar (or in your case Ctrl-spacebar) to wake the system up when it is docked. I have done this on my T60 and it works beautifully. Infact all Fn- combinations work :)

Gator, I must be missing something. I have the Keyboard Customizer/For Use with External Keyboard "enable key assignments" box checked, and am using the default key assignments. I can get the T61 to sleep using the Right Ctrl Key + F4 key combo, but I cannot get the T61 to wake up from sleep using any key combo. I have a usb keyboard. I've looked through the device manager/control panel/bios settings, and see nothing relative to "use keyboard to wake." What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Don't you have a power button on your dock?

That's kind of what the OP said...
