ThinkPad Advanced Mini Dock (2504-10U)

#1 Post by ggginbd » Sat Jul 12, 2008 12:56 pm

I purchased a T61 ThinkPad (widescreen) in April that has Vista Business 32 for an OS. In May I purchased an Advanced Mini Dock. My external screen I have hooked up to the Mini Dock is a Sony 19-inch SDM-HS95P with the DVI-D hookup. Whenever I first dock the T61 to the Mini Dock, it will show the little Microsoft bootup bars on the Sony screen, but when it goes to the log-in screen it goes back the the laptop and the Sony external screen goes blank, but my external keyboard and mouse still work. When I log-in on the laptop screen, it will then revert back to the Sony external screen. After I've used the computer on the Mini Dock and gone through the procedures above and used the external Sony screen, then if I shut the computer down and do a restart, the external screen works all the way through the Microsoft bootup bars, the log-in screen and then the desktop screen. In the Presentation Director I have the display scheme configured to "Both Notebook LCD and External Monitor or Projector" on startup. Also, if I undock the T61 while it is booted up and then try to redock it while booted up, I only get the ThinkPad screen and it will not let me use Fn+F7 to switch over to the external Sony (which is the way I have it configured in Presentation Director). Is there any way that I can make it work so that the Sony external screen works all the way from turning the computer on to the desktop screen when first docking it in the Mini Dock or when I undock it warm and then re-dock it warm?

Here is my solution to this issue:

1. Update BIOS to the latest 2.19
2. Hit F1 during booting and get in BIOS setting
3. Config -> Display ->
4. Change Primary video device to Internal
5. Change Boot Display Device to DVI

Then the whole booting process would display on the external LCD all the way to Windows for me.

Sometimes it can also help to uninstall, reboot and reinstall the Presentation Director.

Tseng: I did what you suggested in your post and the end result is still the same and I posted above.

Reinstall Presentation Director

Next step would be reinstall Presentation Director. Make sure you download the latest version from lenovo's support page.

After the installation, change the Presentation Director behavior to cycle between laptop LCD and external monitor.
