T61 will not hibernate

I've got a brand new T61 running XP Pro SP3.

Everything appears to be working just as it should...except I can't get hibernation to work. Whether by closing the lid (with power manager set to hibernate in this instance) or by using Fn F4, the machine states "Preparing to Hibernate" and then stalls. I've let it run for 30 minutes and it still doesn't move. It won't go into standby as well.

I've re-created the hibernation file, re-installed the power management driver, tried four Microsoft hotfixes for hibernation issues, but nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions on what else to check or do at this point?

Look in the event log. There is probably a message from the failing driver.

Good suggestion. I forgot to mention that the event viewer log shows NOTHING at all. No error, no warning, nothing. There is also no driver or hidden device in device manager that shows anything unusual either.

Take a look at the following:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952117

Its not a freely distributed hotfix so you will have to "request" the hotfix download by supplying an email address - the download itself is free though. (And then MS PR engine wonders why people hate them so much.)

I'll tell you why. I tried three of these hotfixes by "request" (confusing enough since the fix, the kb article number, and the file number are not the same. So three fixes equal nine numbers to match up to figure out which is which. Great system!)

Fix191750 (KB Article Number(s): 928097) - Would NOT install, because already installed with SP

Fix231674 (KB Article Number(s): 952117) - Did NOT work

Fix 75788 (KB Article Number(s): 834202) - Did NOT work

Anyone know what else to check? Would process explorer or something else be able to reveal what is causing hibernation to hang, since there is no indication in event viewer nor in device manager. So nothing (or everthing) looks suspect.

I am wondering if this will solve my hibernation issue?
