Recovery CD question

#1 Post by chimerical_brio » Thu Jul 17, 2008 10:40 pm

So I plan on reformatting my new T61's hard drive to install Linux, but I'm uncomfortable not having recovery media. So, my plan is to make recovery media through Thinkvantage. My question is: armed with the 1 CD and 1 DVD and a thoroughly reformatted HDD, will it be possible to reinstall Vista? Just checking.

Alternatively, I have an external hard drive with extra space; would it be sufficient to just copy over the Rescue and Restore (or whatever) partition to my external, and just put it back if I ever want to reinstall Vista?

Thanks.

i would make the recovery CD set..
and store it in a safe place..
then you can install linux..
and if it is not all that you want you can easily reinstall the factory preload..

others will say whether its possible to back up the recovery partition on an external hard drive in the way you suggest..

my thought is that its not that easy..

if i wanted to try it i would acronis true image to make a backup image..
and if you choose that route then be sure to make the true image boot CD..

I was dumb enough to format my entire drive back in the day.
Before making a backup of any kind.

Couple of weeks ago I called IBM and said "I need some recovery CD's.. My model number is lalalala, my S/N number is lalala, and my adress is banananana."

10 days after I got a 5 cd recovery set. :D

This is just to let you know that you aren't completely f***** if you mess your backup up
